The survey was productive—caterpillars of the green oak tortrix and various geometrid moths were found. Typical damages caused by these pests were clearly visible on the lower canopy and undergrowth to the experienced eyes of Olena Kupko.
At the time of the survey, a significant difference was observed in the state of the common oak’s assimilation apparatus between its early and late forms. As nature has no bad weather, these caterpillars have already adapted to temperature fluctuations, precipitation, or its absence. We wish them a “bon appétit” for maintaining their species in nature and hope that the sanitary condition of deciduous plantations will not suffer greatly from the damage.

With ongoing climate fluctuations, monitoring the condition of forests and their pest populations remains a crucial task for forest pathologists. Such surveys help in timely decision-making to maintain ecological balance.

Forest pathologists from the Supervision and Forecasting Department conducted a survey of deciduous plantations in Babai Forestry of the “Zhovtneve LG” State Enterprise under the Kharkiv Regional Forestry and Hunting Administration to identify early spring leaf-eating pest outbreaks.
