👉 We continue to introduce you to the enterprises within the management system of the State Forest Resources Agency that ensure the functioning of the forestry sector. Today, we are telling you about the State Specialized Forest Protection Enterprise “Kharkivlisozahyst”.

🌿 Its mission is to ensure the protection and safeguarding of forests against pests and diseases, preserve their sanitary condition, and enhance the resilience of forest ecosystems.

Currently, the forest pathology surveys conducted by the enterprise are primarily focused on stands with elevated levels of weakening and damage. In particular, in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, a significant portion of forests has been affected by hostilities. Forest areas damaged by shelling are prone to disease outbreaks and pest infestations, and therefore require priority inspection.

A separate line of work involves the survey of ash stands affected by the spread of the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis). This is a dangerous invasive pest, whose range in Ukraine is mainly concentrated in the regions where the enterprise operates.

🌎 One of the priority areas of “Kharkivlisozahyst” is the development of international cooperation and the implementation of innovative approaches in forest protection and restoration.

The enterprise is involved in the development of two promising international projects. One is aimed at creating and cultivating ash forest plantations with enhanced resistance to disease agents. The other focuses on the use of drones for sample collection in forests located in areas with restricted access due to hostilities, as well as the use of drones for planting new forest crops in mined and hazardous areas.

The implementation of these initiatives opens up new opportunities for monitoring, protecting, and restoring forests amid contemporary challenges.
