Headline: Forest Expert Program: Exchanging Experience for a Sustainable Future
The German Forest Society is implementing the “Forest Expert Program,” aimed at enhancing professional exchange in forest management. The primary goal is to build capacity and transfer knowledge related to sustainable forest management worldwide.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) via the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE), the program offers one-month traineeships in Germany. These traineeships are tailored to the individual needs, interests, and experience of the participant. The stay includes a mix of seminars, field trips, and practical training sessions designed to convey the basic principles of sustainable forest management in Germany.
The program welcomes applicants working in forest management and forest politics, with a special focus on candidates from the priority regions of German development cooperation. Key requirements for the fellowship are:
- A forest-related education;
- Relevant professional experience;
- Sufficient knowledge of English or German;
- A letter of recommendation from a German partner organization (e.g., ministry, forest administration, GIZ, consulting company).
For its second phase, “Forest Expert Program 2,” the initiative particularly encourages applications focusing on multifunctional sustainable forestry in the context of climate change.
The “Forest Expert Program” aims to establish itself for the long term. Beyond the offered fellowships, it also provides opportunities for self-financed trainees, forestry-related training courses, and the organization of forest delegations.
