In the Poltava region, they are initiating a set of measures to rescue drying plantations. In recent years, the drying of pine plantations has been observed in Ukraine in all regions of the country. The Poltava region is no exception. Particularly significant drying of forest plantations was observed during the last year in the territory of the Poltava region, especially in the suburbs of the regional center. Drying occurs in maturing and middle-aged stands, young growth, as well as unclosed forest cultures. Forestry specialists note: if this process is not stopped, the affected area may increase. For example, the area of pine plantations in the Chalivske forestry of the Poltava forestry branch of the “Slobozhanskyi Forestry Office” is 3600 hectares, while the area of plantations where pathological processes were detected in 2025 is 1091.1 hectares. In 2025, pathological processes in forest plantations of Scots pine began to develop rapidly. According to foresters, drying occurs due to many factors. Among them, in particular, is a lack of moisture due to prolonged drought in the region, which in turn contributed to a decrease in the protective ability of trees and, as a result, their colonization by stem pests and infection by diseases.
In connection with this, a meeting was held at the “Slobozhanskyi Forestry Office” branch with specialists from the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, representatives of SSE “Kharkivlisozakhyst”, SE “Forests of Ukraine” (link: https://www.facebook.com/ForestsOfUkraine), scientific institutions and other specialists. They discussed the problem of drying Scots pine plantations and proposed an appropriate algorithm of actions to rescue the forest. First of all, joint work with scientists will begin to study the causes of pathological processes in a specific plantation. Secondly, additional surveys of damaged forest areas will be conducted. It is necessary to conduct soil analyses, biochemical composition of trees, etc. Based on the results, recommendations and methodologies will be developed that can also be applied in other regions of Ukraine. Such decisions are important for the preservation and rescue of pine plantations and preventing the spread of drying to significant areas.Branch “Slobozhanskyi Forestry Office” (link: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089454368531)
